Kalbaisakhi Strikes Odisha: Thunderstorms, Torrential Rains Disrupt Life In Bhubaneswar And Cuttack

Key Points

Heavy downpours accompanied by thunderstorms disrupt normalcy across Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, leaving low-lying areas submerged.

Bhubaneswar, Apr 15: The seasonal Kalbaisakhi storm brought intense rain and thunderstorms to Odisha, heavily impacting the Twin Cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.

Continuous rains overwhelmed drainage systems, causing waterlogging in several low-lying areas. Many neighbourhoods have been inundated with water, leaving residents struggling to navigate through submerged streets.

Earlier, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted more heavy rains on Tuesday and Wednesday in parts of northern and southern Odisha, accompanied by wind speeds of 50-60 km/h.

Areas like Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Ganjam, and Gajapati are among those expected to bear the brunt of the storm. Yellow warnings have been issued for multiple districts.

While the storm currently dominates the state, experts have forecasted its influence to persist until April 19. Following this, temperatures are likely to rise gradually, signalling the onset of summer.
