Kalbaisakhi Looms: IMD Issues Heavy Rainfall, Thunderstorm Alert For Several Districts

Bhubaneswar, Apr 15: Several districts of Odisha are expected to witness heavy rainfall under the influence of Kalbaisakhi, informed the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) regional centre.
According to the weather agency, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 50–60 kmph is expected to lash as many as 24 districts today.
The districts likely to be affected include Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
Among these, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Balasore are expected to experience heavy rainfall.
The IMD has also warned of similar weather conditions tomorrow, particularly in coastal and southern Odisha. Light to moderate rainfall is anticipated in various regions on April 18 and 19 as well, said the weather agency.
The Kalbaisakhi storms, known for their sudden and intense nature, are expected to provide temporary relief from the prevailing heatwave conditions.
Residents are advised to stay cautious and avoid outdoor activities during the storms.
