Bhubaneswar, Apr 29: Odisha is witnessing extreme weather conditions as intense heat grips the region during the daytime, followed by thunderstorms and heavy showers in the afternoon.

As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the ongoing Kalbaisakhi (Nor’wester) rain is expected to last for the next four days, affecting multiple districts with strong winds, lightning, and heavy rainfall.

The IMD has issued an Orange Warning for districts like Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda, forecasting wind speeds of 50-60 kmph, accompanied by thunder and lightning.

Meanwhile, a Yellow Warning has been issued for Anugul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Khordha, Puri, and several others, predicting moderate rainfall with wind speeds of 30-50 kmph.

The extreme heatwave conditions during the morning hours have led to discomfort among residents. However, the evening thunderstorms are providing a brief respite.

The IMD has advised people to take precautions against lightning strikes and strong gusty winds, urging them to avoid open areas during thunderstorms.

The weather department has predicted a temperature drop of 2-4 degrees Celsius, followed by a rise in temperatures in the next five days. Odisha residents must remain alert and stay updated with official advisories.
