Puri, Apr 18: Kalabaisakhi (Nor'westers) claimed the life of a man in Pamapur village of Ketakipatana gram panchayat under Puri district's Satyabadi block on Friday forenoon.

The deceased was identified as Dipti Ranjan Barik. He was struck by lightning. He was declared dead at the Satyabadi hospital.

Nor'westers hit some places in the coastal parts of Odisha today. It triggered heavy rains, thunderstorms, and lightning. By its impact, big trees were uprooted and houses damaged at some places. But people got temporary relief from scorching heat-wave conditions for some time.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange warning for the districts of Khurda, Cuttack and Dhenkanal, predicting heavy rains in the next three hours. Wind blow at 40 kmph and gusting to 50 kmph was also expected.

The weather office has predicted Nor'westers to occur in some parts of Odisha in the next four days.
