Justice Served: Rigorous Life Imprisonment for Mayurbhanj Rape Convict

Mayurbhanj, May 19: A verdict was pronounced on Monday in a rape case at the Mayurbhanj Additional District and Sessions Court as well as the Special Fast-Track POCSO Court.

Judge Santosh Kumar Nayak, after reviewing the case, found the accused guilty and sentenced him to rigorous life imprisonment. Additionally, the court imposed a fine of ₹10,000, and in case of non-payment, an additional six months of imprisonment was mandated.

The convicted individual, identified as Hemendra Nayak (30) from Kumarpandugandi village under the jurisdiction of Jasipur police station, was accused of raping a minor.

According to reports, in June 2024, Nayak allegedly assaulted the minor when she was alone. After learning about the incident, the victim's family filed a complaint at the police station.

The police swiftly investigated the case and registered an FIR (Case No. 137/5.6.2024) before arresting the accused and presenting him before the court.

Based on witness statements and forensic reports, the judge ruled the accused guilty. The court also directed the Legal Services Authority to provide ₹3 lakh compensation to the survivor.

The case was handled by advocate Manoranjan Pattnaik, who represented the prosecution.
