Justice Served: Odisha POCSO Court Hands Rapist 20-Year Sentence

Cuttack, Apr 15: In a landmark verdict, the Cuttack Special POCSO Court has sentenced Satyabrata Rana to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for the heinous crime of raping a minor girl.
Alongside the prison sentence, the court has directed the accused to pay a fine of ₹10,000, with an additional ₹5,000 penalty for failure to comply. Furthermore, the court has ordered compensation of ₹5 lakh to be paid to the victim.
The tragic incident occurred on February 18, 2019, in the Athagarh police station area in Cuttack district of Odisha.
Satyabrata Rana was accused of abducting the minor and subjecting her to sexual assault. Following the victim’s family's complaint, the police swiftly registered the case and initiated the investigation.
The court’s decision serves as a strong message against crimes targeting vulnerable individuals.
