Jharsuguda, May 20: In a major step towards strengthening commuter safety, Jharsuguda police have launched an innovative Smart Auto Tracking System under their ongoing special drive Operation Netra. The initiative aims to enhance transparency in public transport services and improve the sense of security among passengers, particularly women and senior citizens.

QR Code Integration
Under the new system, complete details of all registered auto‑rickshaws in the district have been digitally integrated into a central database. Special QR code stickers bearing unique identification numbers are affixed to both the front and rear sides of every auto‑rickshaw, enabling easy identification.

Inside each vehicle, a prominent information sheet displays the driver’s and owner’s names, addresses, mobile numbers, driving license details, and other vehicle‑related information. Passengers can scan the QR code using their mobile phones to access a range of safety‑related services.

Live Journey Tracking
One of the key features allows commuters to send a live journey tracking request, enabling the police control room to monitor the movement of the vehicle during the trip. The system also provides a platform for passengers to lodge instant complaints regarding driver misconduct, overcharging, rash driving, deviation from designated routes, accidents, or belongings left behind.

Users can also access contact details of the nearest police station and emergency helpline services through the platform, making it a comprehensive safety tool.

According to Jharsuguda Police, the initiative will not only improve passenger safety but also benefit honest and responsible auto‑rickshaw drivers by enhancing public trust in their services. Officials believe the technology‑driven measure will strengthen accountability in the transport sector and contribute to a safer commuting environment across the district.
