Key Points

The committee had booked the Jatra troupe for a performance in Mathadiha field, but the event was cancelled due to restrictions imposed during the matriculation exams.

Bhadrak, Apr 21: The annual tradition of hosting grand Jatra performances in Bhadrak district has taken a controversial turn this year.

The Hanuman Committee of Olanga Mathadiha, known for organizing Jatra events during Hanuman Jayanti, has accused 'Jatra Ranga Taranga' of failing to refund ₹80,000 after the cancellation of their booking.

The committee had booked the Jatra troupe for a performance in Mathadiha field, but the event was cancelled due to restrictions imposed during the matriculation exams.

Despite assurances from the troupe to refund the amount in case of cancellation, the committee claims that the Jatra owner has neither returned the money nor responded to calls.

Frustrated by the lack of resolution, the committee filed a formal complaint at Dhusuru Police Station against 'Jatra Ranga Taranga' and its owner.

The incident has sparked questions about the accountability of Jatra organizers and the financial struggles faced by artists and performers.

Committee members have expressed concerns about the future of Jatra performances, emphasising the need for transparency and fair practices to sustain this cultural tradition.
