Jajpur, Jun 21: The diarrhoea outbreak in Odisha’s Jajpur district is showing signs of improvement, with health officials reporting a decline in severe cases and increased recovery rates.
As many as 43 new patients have been admitted to various medical facilities, bringing the total number of treated cases to 158, of which 144 are reported to be mild.
District Chief Medical Officer Dr. Bijay Kumar Mishra confirmed that 17 patients have tested positive for cholera, prompting continued surveillance and preventive measures. While the situation remains under control, health authorities are urging residents to consume only boiled or purified water and maintain strict hygiene practices to prevent further spread.
The outbreak, which began earlier this month, had raised concerns due to the detection of Vibrio cholerae bacteria in several stool samples. However, the current trend suggests a gradual stabilization, with most patients responding well to treatment.
Medical teams have been deployed across affected areas to monitor symptoms, distribute ORS packets and halogen tablets, and ensure access to clean drinking water. Public awareness campaigns are also underway to educate communities about sanitation and food safety.
Officials have assured that the district administration is fully equipped to handle the situation and is working in coordination with state health authorities to prevent any resurgence.
