Bhubaneswar, Jun 11: A sudden outbreak of diarrhea has been reported in Jajpur district, Odisha, prompting swift intervention from health authorities.
According to reports, approximately 250 people have been affected, with around 40-50 patients recovering and returning home. However, over 20 individuals have been referred to SCB Medical College for specialized treatment, and two deaths have been alleged.
Upon receiving information, Odisha Health Secretary Aswathy S. ordered immediate action, sending medical teams, microbiologists, food safety officers, and health experts to investigate the root cause.
Preliminary analysis suggests food poisoning might be the trigger, with numerous cases emerging from areas like Dharmasala, Jajpur Road, and Danagadi.
Medical officials are ensuring adequate medicine supplies and healthcare personnel availability across the district. An additional team from SCB has also been deployed, reinforcing efforts to stabilize the situation. The Public Health Directorate continues to monitor the crisis, ensuring affected individuals receive proper treatment.
In a coordinated effort, the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Departments have been instructed to sanitize all water sources, preventing further contamination. District Collector officials are overseeing the emergency response, and state-level teams are evaluating field conditions to propose necessary actions.
The Health Secretary expressed confidence in resolving the outbreak swiftly, stating that medical teams will submit reports on fatalities once investigations conclude.
