Argus News - Jagatsinghpur Police Bust Illegal Madrasa in Odisha as Two Bangladeshi Nationals Arrested

Jagatsinghpur, Nov 17: Jagatsinghpur police Sunday carried out a major raid at Beherampur under Jagatsinghpur Sadar police station. Acting on intelligence inputs, the police stormed a rented house where more than 30 suspected Bangladeshi nationals were reportedly staying.

During the raid, chaos erupted as several suspects attempted to flee. Over 10 managed to escape, while two were apprehended. Police seized a cache of illegal weapons including guns, sharp-edged swords, daggers, and other arms. The situation escalated into a scuffle between the police and the suspects, leaving some officers injured, including the Additional SP of Jagatsinghpur. To control the tense atmosphere, two platoons of police force were deployed at the site.

The prime accused, Sikandar Ali, believed to be the mastermind behind the illegal activities, managed to escape during the raid. According to exclusive police documents, Sikandar had been under surveillance since October. He was allegedly running an unauthorized madrasa in Beherampur, Dhaniapur area of Jagatsinghpur. Children from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh were reportedly brought in to receive religious education at this illegal institution.

Sikandar, who previously worked in the Merchant Navy, is accused of abandoning his profession to establish the madrasa unlawfully. Police sources confirm that he fled with a CCTV hard disk installed at the premises, possibly containing crucial evidence. His car has been seized, and investigations are underway to trace his whereabouts. Authorities are also searching for his brother, suspected to be involved in the case.

The raid has sparked concerns about illegal settlements and unauthorized institutions operating in the region. Police have assured that further investigation will continue to uncover the full extent of the network.
