Jagatsinghpur, Aug 6: A serious allegation of custodial torture has emerged from Biridi police station in Jagatsinghpur district. Partha Sarathi Das, a resident of Baliapal area, has accused the local police of subjecting him to brutal third-degree treatment inside the station premises.

 

According to Das, the incident occurred on July 25 during a scheduled review meeting at the Biridi Block office chaired by BJD MLA Ramakant Bhoi. The meeting was abruptly cancelled, leading to a clash between two rival factions of the BJD.

 

Amidst the chaos, Das, who was present nearby to discuss a bill-related matter with a friend, was allegedly picked up by the police and taken to the station.

Das claims that he was not involved in the political scuffle but was nonetheless beaten mercilessly by the police inside the station. He suffered severe injuries. Following persistent pain and deteriorating health, Das sought medical attention.

 

On August 3, Das formally lodged complaints with the Superintendent of Police, Jagatsinghpur, and the Odisha Human Rights Commission, seeking justice for the alleged inhuman treatment. The SP, when contacted, stated that he was unaware of the incident.
