Bhubaneswar, May 2: Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Friday said an investigation into the Nepali female student's 'suicide' case has started and assured stringent punishment against the culprit.


A Nepali student, Prisa Sah, was studying in the first year of B.Tech in Computer Science at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology. Her body was found hanging in hostel room no.111 of Campus-IV on Thursday evening.


"An investigation has started into the Nepali female student's death at KIIT. The Law Department has initiated steps. Action will be taken after the primary investigation. The culprit will be punished,' said Harichandan.


Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari said such incidents (the death of students) are not good for society. Students intending to commit suicide are a matter of concern.

"The state government is examining the KIIT incident. The government will try to know what pressure KIIT students are under, forcing some to take extreme steps in life.


Meanwhile, Nepal's Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba announced that diplomatic initiatives have been initiated to investigate the death of a Nepali female at KIIT, Odisha. In his X handle, he wrote the Ministry of Foreign Affairs initiated diplomatic initiatives to investigate the truth of the incident through high-ranking officials of the Government of India, the Government of Odisha, and the Nepali Embassy in Delhi."


Sah's death is the second incident of the death of a Nepali female student at the KIIT University to be reported within three months. Earlier in February, Prakriti Lamsal also had taken her own life at the same university.
