Bhadrak, Jan 30: A woman was critically injured after she was allegedly assaulted by her brother-in-law at her home in Bhadrak district, a source said on Friday.
The incident took place at Susua village under Arnapal panchayat within Gujidarada police outpost limits.
The victim was admitted to the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital and is undergoing treatment.
According to the source, Surendra Sahu lives in Bhadrak town in a rented house, where he earns his livelihood by running a street food business. His wife and children reside at the family home in the village. Surendra’s younger brother, Mahendra Sahu, had returned to the village about two years ago after staying outside the state for several years.
On Thursday, Mahendra allegedly entered the house in an intoxicated condition and searched for his sister-in-law. He is accused of verbally abusing her and attacking her with an iron rod, leaving her bleeding and seriously injured.
After being informed of the incident, Surendra rushed to the village, rescued his wife and took her to the district headquarters hospital for treatment.

Surendra later lodged a written complaint at the Gujidarada police outpost, seeking legal action against his younger brother. Police said they have registered the complaint and initiated an investigation into the incident.
