Jharsuguda, Sep 11: The craze for likes, views and followers on Instagram has landed a group of young men in trouble after they posted reels displaying sharp-edged weapons and issuing threatening messages, prompting Jharsuguda Police to launch action against them.

The Instagram accounts allegedly involved in the case are mr_w_bawa, ronal_390_ and akson_1_0_0.

According to police, the youths had uploaded reels carrying knives and threatening dialogues, with the intention of creating fear among people and establishing their influence in the area.

According to a source, the videos came to the attention of Jharsuguda Police, following which a specialised cyber and surveillance team began examining the content.

Using technical surveillance, police traced the locations of those involved and conducted raids at their residences.

During the operation, police seized two sharp-edged knives used in the Instagram reel, along with the mobile phone used to record the videos.

Police said cases have been registered against the accused under relevant provisions of the Arms Act.
