Balasore, July 17: In a shocking incident, an inebriated man allegedly strangled his mother to death in Odisha's Balasore district for not cooking fish curry for dinner on Tuesday night.

The accused has been identified as Arun Mohanty, a resident of Talapada village under Kanchapada panchayat within Simulia police limits in the district.

As per reports, accused Arun was addicted to alcohol and used to drink every day.

Arun returned home around 10 pm last night under the influence of alcohol. He had a heated exchange with his mother, Basanti Mohanty, after the former found that the fish curry was not prepared for the dinner.

The argument between the mother and son turned ugly when Arun started beating his mother. Arun's wife Kabita intervened and attempted to pacify him, but he suddenly strangled his mother to death in a fit of rage.

After getting information, Simulia Police reached the spot and arrested the accused from the village.

"Arun's wife Kabita lodged a complaint in connection with the crime and a murder case has been registered. Further investigation is underway," a senior Police officer said.
