Nabarangpur, Oct. 10: Forest Department officials rescued an Indian porcupine from a residential locality in Umerkote town of Odisha's Nabarangpur district on Friday night.
According to reports, the porcupine was found near the residence of Keshab Harijan at Trinath Mandir Sahi in Ward No. 13 of Umerkote Municipality. The sighting of the nocturnal wild animal in a densely populated area drew the attention of local residents, who informed the Forest Department.
A team of forest personnel reached the spot and launched a rescue operation. Officials said it took nearly two hours to safely capture the animal without causing it any harm.
The porcupine was rescued alive and taken into custody of the Forest Department. Officials said the animal would undergo a health examination before being shifted to the Deer Park at Papadahandi for care and observation.
