Tokai, Sep 26: Kabaddi’s enduring legacy at the Asian Games gained another golden chapter on Saturday, as India’s men and women carved out twin triumphs over Iran.

In Tokai, the men battled through a pulsating 40‑34 final to secure a record‑extending ninth gold, while just hours earlier the women had defended their crown with a gritty 37‑34 win.

Together, the victories not only reaffirmed India’s supremacy in the sport but also showcased the resilience, skill, and drama that have come to define Kabaddi’s place on the continental stage.

The men’s final was a classic battle of raids, tackles, and bonus points, with little separating the two sides in the opening half.

Iran edged ahead 18‑17 at the break after inflicting a crucial all‑out on India. They collected 14 out points, a bonus, and a super tackle, while India’s defence responded with two super tackles, 11 outs, three bonus points, and a technical point.

The second half saw India regroup and surge ahead. With the score tied at 20‑20, defender Sumit produced a series of thigh tackles to stall Iran’s momentum. Rahul then executed a decisive tackle that led to an all‑out, giving India a 29‑24 lead.

From there, India’s raiders and defenders combined seamlessly to close out the contest and secure their ninth Kabaddi gold, the fourth overall medal for the contingent at these Games.

Earlier, the Indian women’s team showcased grit and composure to retain their Kabaddi title. Facing a spirited Iranian side, the Women in Blue built a 22‑16 lead at halftime.

Iran fought back strongly in the second half, scoring 18 points to India’s 15, but the defending champions held firm to clinch a 37‑34 victory.

This marked India’s fourth women’s Kabaddi gold in Asian Games history and their third medal at the ongoing edition. Together, the men’s and women’s triumphs reaffirmed India’s supremacy in Kabaddi, a sport they have made their own on the continental stage.
