Coastal Security / Indian Coast Guard Shows Valour in Paradip Deep-Sea Drill

Paradip, Nov 15: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) showcased its operational excellence and maritime valour during a two-day search and rescue (SAR) mock drill conducted in the deep waters off Paradip coast in Odisha, officials said on Saturday.
Purpose of the Drill
The exercise, organized by the Indian Coast Guard, was aimed at demonstrating how rescue operations are carried out during emergencies at sea and how India’s maritime forces ensure round-the-clock coastal security.
Multi-Agency Participation
The drill included a live demonstration of deep-sea rescue operations, with the Indian Air Force also displaying its aerial search capabilities. Several agencies collaborated in the exercise, including the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA), Paradip Port Trust, Customs, Indian Navy, Marine Police, CISF, Fisheries Department, and Forest Department. Coast Guard vessels such as Vijay, Varad, Amogh, and Adyamya actively participated in the operation.

✨Preparedness and Motto
The mock drill highlighted the preparedness of the Indian
Coast Guard in safeguarding India’s maritime interests, ranging from coastal
security and anti-smuggling operations to environmental protection. Established
in 1977, the ICG has grown into a formidable force, currently operating 157
ships and 78 aircraft to secure India’s vast maritime boundaries. Its motto,
“Vayam Rakshamah” meaning “We Protect”, reflects its commitment to national
safety.

Public Awareness
This exercise also served to educate the public about the Coast Guard’s role in ensuring 24x7 protection of India’s waters. With the 49th Indian Coast Guard Day to be celebrated on February 1, the Paradip drill was a timely reminder of the force’s dedication to maritime law enforcement, search and rescue operations, and safeguarding nine coastal states including Odisha, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, West Bengal, and the union territories of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Puducherry.
