Bhubaneswar, Jul 28: As Odisha reels under flood-like conditions in several districts, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for 15 districts, forecasting heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds over the next two days.
The warning comes amid rising water levels in rivers such as Subarnarekha, Baitarani, and Jalaka, which have already breached danger marks in parts of Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur. The IMD has attributed the rainfall to a weak low-pressure system currently active over northwest Madhya Pradesh, which is influencing weather patterns across eastern India.
Districts under yellow warning include: Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.

✨The IMD has advised residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel. Fishermen have been strictly warned against venturing into the North Bay of Bengal, where sea conditions are expected to remain rough to very rough.
While heavy rainfall is expected on Monday and Tuesday, the IMD forecasts a gradual decrease in intensity starting July 30. However, officials caution that any additional downpour could worsen the flood situation, especially in districts already inundated.
