IMD Predicts Formation Of Low-Pressure Area Over South Bay Of Bengal

Bhubaneswar, Apr 6: Following an upper air cyclonic circulation, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the south Bay of Bengal within the next 48 hours, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Under its influence, widespread to light to moderate rainfall likely over the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

A fresh Western Disturbance is also likely to affect the Western Himalayan region from April 8, said the IMD.

The system is likely to trigger widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-GilgitBaltistan-Muzaffarabad and isolated to scattered rainfall over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand between April 9 and April 10, 2025.

Meanwhile, the IMD's regional centre has issued rainfall alert for several districts of the State.

Day 1 (Valid upto 8.30 AM of April 7):

Light rain or Thundershower very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Rayagada and Gajapati and dry weather very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.
Day 2 (Valid from 8.30 AM of April 7 to 8.30 AM of April of 8):

Light rain or thundershower very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Malkangiri, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Bhadrak and dry weather very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.
Day 3 (Valid from 8.30 AM of April 8 to 8.30 AM of April 9):

Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Rayagada and Koraput and dry weather very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.
Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Rayagada and Koraput.
Day 4 (Valid from 8.30 AM of April 9 to 8.30 AM of April 10):

Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangapur and dry weather very likely to prevail over the rest districts of Odisha.
Yellow Warning: Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Nabarangapur
