Key Points

The IMD has issued a red warning for Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts on October 28, with extremely heavy rainfall possible at isolated places, as a developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal approaches.

Bhubaneswar, Oct 24: Odisha is likely to experience heavy rainfall from October 27 to 29 under the influence of a developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a red warning for five districts on October 28.

Manorama Mohanty, Director of the Regional Centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar, on Saturday said the well-marked low-pressure area over the east-central and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression on Saturday, followed by a deep depression on October 25 and a cyclonic storm by the morning of October 26.

The system is expected to move west-northwestwards towards north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha coasts. Its precise landfall location and intensity will become clearer as it develops, the weather office said.

Rainfall To Intensify From October 27
According to Mohanty, rainfall activity is expected to increase from the morning of October 27, with coastal and southern Odisha likely to experience the greatest impact through October 29.
