IMD Issues Heatwave Alert As Temperature Set To Rise

Bhubaneswar, Apr 22: The India Meteorological Department's (IMD) regional centre has issued a heatwave alert across Odisha, warning of a significant rise in temperatures over the next three days.
The mercury is expected to climb by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius, with unrelenting heat gripping the state.
Districts such as Balangir, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh are under a yellow warning for extreme heat conditions. Meanwhile, light to moderate Kalbaisakhi rainfall is likely to continue in some parts of the state for the next two days. Gusty winds ranging from 30 to 50 km/h are also expected in isolated areas.
In the last 24 hours, Jharsuguda recorded a sweltering 44.8°C, the highest temperature in the state.
Rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is predicted in Koraput, Malkangiri, and Nabarangpur, with wind speeds reaching 30 to 40 km/h.
The IMD has advised residents to stay hydrated and avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak hours.
