Bhubaneswar, May 7: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre, Bhubaneswar on Wednesday issued a yellow warning for several districts of Odisha, cautioning residents about an impending heat wave and thunderstorm threats over the next five days.
The IMD predicted thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30-40 kmph) in parts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nawarangapur, Keonjhargarh, and Kalahandi till tomorrow morning.
As temperatures soar, Thursday will bring hot and humid conditions in coastal districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

✨By Friday, hot and Humid Conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati. And, heat wave Conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places over the districts of Sambalpur, Jharsuguda.
The trend is likely to continue on Saturday, with additional districts—Boudh and Balangir—likely to experience heatwave conditions.
Sunday is likely to see sustained hot and humid weather across major coastal districts, increasing health concerns related to dehydration and heat stroke.
The weathermen have advised people to stay indoors during peak hours, keep hydrated, and take necessary precautions against high temperatures. The IMD also urged residents to remain vigilant, especially in districts marked for heat wave conditions.
