IMD Issues Alerts as Thunderstorms Loom Over Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Jul 29: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast intense rainfall across Odisha over the next two days, triggered by a cyclonic circulation over southern Bangladesh and adjoining regions.
This system has developed into a low-pressure zone, bringing moderate to heavy showers to many parts of the state, especially northern interior and coastal Odisha.
In the past 24 hours, several districts have recorded significant rainfall, with Thuamul Rampur in Kalahandi district receiving 55 mm. Odisha has logged 596.9 mm of rainfall so far this season, which is 13% higher than the normal average of 526.4 mm, according to the IMD.

✨The forecast for the next 24 hours includes moderate rainfall in many areas, heavy rainfall at one or two locations, thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–35 km/h, and up to 40–45 km/h in districts like Keonjhar, Nuapada, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, and Balangir.
The IMD has issued yellow and orange alerts for several districts, urging residents to remain cautious. The IMD continues to monitor the evolving system and will issue further advisories as needed.
