Bhubaneswar, May 12: The regional centre of India Meteorological Department in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday forecast continued Kalbaisakhi (Nor'westers) activity across Odisha for the next five days, even though no major weather system is currently active over the region.
According to the weather agency, the state has been witnessing hot and humid conditions during the day followed by evening thunderstorms and rain in several districts.
The weather office has issued a yellow warning for 17 districts for Tuesday, forecasting rain accompanied by thunder, lightning and gusty winds.
The department further said it is unlikely to be any major change in the maximum temperature across districts during the next two days. However, temperatures may rise by around 2°C to 4°C during the period.
Meanwhile, weather conditions are gradually becoming favourable for the advancement of the southwest monsoon.
The IMD said conditions are likely to become favourable for the monsoon to advance into parts of the south Bay of Bengal, the Andaman Sea and some areas of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands towards the end of this week.
Usually, the southwest monsoon reaches the Andaman region around May 18 or 19 every year before advancing towards Kerala during the first week of June.
The monsoon generally reaches Odisha within 10 to 12 days after arriving over Kerala. However, meteorologists indicated that the process could be faster this year.
