Puri, Aug 31: The Rajya Sabha Assurance Committee conducted a comprehensive review of the ongoing development and beautification works at the revered Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri.

The committee emphasised the urgency of completing the temple’s illumination project, which will soon transform the iconic structure into a radiant spectacle.

Plans are underway to bathe the entire temple complex in permanent lighting. The four majestic domes (gumutas), inner and outer boundary walls, and the temple spire (chuda) will be adorned with architectural lighting designed by expert architects. A presentation of the finalised design is scheduled to be held tomorrow at the headquarters.

Currently, temporary lighting installations around the temple will be replaced with a permanent, energy-efficient system that highlights the temple’s grandeur while preserving its sanctity.

In parallel, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has completed water leakage repairs in 134 subsidiary shrines surrounding the main temple. The remaining conservation work will be integrated with the broader restoration efforts of the Shree Mandir, ensuring a unified and accelerated approach.

The Assurance Committee praised the architectural vision and the commitment of ASI and temple authorities to preserving the temple’s heritage while enhancing its visual appeal. The lighting initiative is expected to elevate the spiritual ambiance and improve nighttime visibility for devotees and pilgrims.
