Bhubaneswar, Jan 3: The Odisha Excise Department has intensified its special enforcement drive against illicit liquor and narcotics, seizing contraband worth Rs1.22 crore on the 14th day of the campaign, officials said on Friday.
The statewide crackdown, which began on December 20, has led to the registration of 166 cases and the arrest of 89 individuals in a single day.
NDPS Cases and Vehicle Seizures
Officials said that seven of the cases were registered under
the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Eight vehicles
allegedly linked to illegal trade were also seized during the operations.

✨Details of Seized Materials
The haul included 5,632 litres of illicitly brewed liquor and 283 litres of duty-paid liquor. Additionally, 44,005 bulk litres of mahua-based country liquor, 11,250 kilograms of jaggery used for brewing, and 10 kilograms of cannabis were confiscated. Among narcotics, 755 grams of brown sugar was seized, marking a significant blow to illegal drug networks.
Sustained Enforcement Drive
The Excise Department stated that the special drive will continue across districts to curb the menace of illicit liquor and narcotics. Officials emphasized that strict action is being taken to dismantle supply chains and protect public health.
