Mayurbhanj, May 6: In a major operation against illegal sand mining, a joint team comprising the Mining Department, Police, and Revenue officials conducted a surprise raid at Adipur Balighat on the banks of the Baitarani River.

The crackdown comes amid reports of sand mafias illegally extracting sand from the Keonjhar district and transporting it into Mayurbhanj using boats.

During the raid, officials seized two boats used for the unauthorised extraction and transportation of sand. However, the sand mafias managed to flee the scene, evading arrest.

Authorities have confirmed that no individuals have been apprehended yet, but investigations are ongoing to identify and take action against those involved.

The Mining Department has intensified its probe into the matter, aiming to curb the rampant illegal sand trade that has been affecting the region’s environment and economy.

Despite the crackdown, neither the local administration nor mining officials have made any public statements regarding the operation.

The incident has raised concerns about the growing influence of sand mafias and the challenges faced by law enforcement in tackling illegal mining activities.

Authorities are expected to continue their crackdown, and further developments in the case will determine whether the culprits are brought to justice.
