Nabarangpur, Dec 3: Former Member of Parliament Pradeep Majhi has landed in controversy after allegedly threatening a government official with the words “I will shoot you” during an official meeting.
The incident, which took place in front of the District Collector and other officials, has now resulted in a formal complaint lodged against him at the Nabarangpur police station.
The matter dates back to November 20, when a student named
Dhaneswar Bhatra from Kakadi Semala School in Kosagumuda block was injured in a
pressure cooker blast. On November 28, the injured student was brought to the
District Collector for advanced medical treatment.

During this time, Majhi reportedly confronted District Social Welfare Officer Rabindra Palka and issued the threat in front of senior officials.

According to the complaint, Majhi’s statement not only disrupted official proceedings but also caused mental distress and harmed the officer’s social reputation.
The officer further alleged that Majhi has repeatedly made false corruption accusations against him with malicious intent, adding to the harassment.
The police have registered the case under Nabarangpur PS Case No. 478/25, citing sections 162(2), 221, and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include obstructing a government servant in official duty and issuing threats to life.
The controversy has sparked political reactions, with the
local BJP unit strongly condemning Majhi’s remarks and demanding strict action.
The incident has also intensified the political rivalry in the district,
putting Majhi under sharp scrutiny.
