Sambalpur, Dec 15: Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Sambalpur, one of the country’s leading management institutions, successfully hosted the Production and Operations Management Society (POMS) India International Conference 2025, officials said on Monday.

 

The four-day event, organised in collaboration with the POMS India Chapter, brought together over 500 participants including global scholars, industry leaders, and academicians to deliberate on the future of operations and supply-chain management.

 

The conference underscored how geopolitical tensions, climate change, pandemics, and rapid technological disruptions are reshaping global supply chains, making resilience, digital integration, and sustainability critical priorities. Distinguished speakers included Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director of IIM Sambalpur; Sashi Shekhar Mohanty, MD & CEO of Essar Minmet Ltd; Dr. Anil Sahasrabudhe, Chairman of NETF and NBA; Prof. Subodha Kumar, President of POMS; and Prof. Sajeev A. George, President of POMS India Chapter.

Academicians from globally renowned institutions such as the University of Michigan, Scheller College of Business, Pamplin College of Business, and Fox School of Business, along with representatives from IITs and IIMs across India, enriched the discussions. Keynote sessions, panel dialogues, and research presentations focused on transitioning supply chains from resilience to regeneration and advancing India-centric operations management research.

Prof. Jaiswal emphasised the role of digitalisation, decarbonisation, and democratisation in shaping future operations, noting India’s emergence as a hub for Global Capability Centres, with 53% of GCCs located in the country. Mr. Mohanty highlighted the fragility of hyper-connected supply chains, while Dr. Sahasrabudhe praised India’s digital infrastructure for strengthening resilience during COVID-19. Prof. George called for reimagining supply chains beyond cost and efficiency, towards net-positive and sustainable futures.

 

On December 15, a Fireside Chat titled “The B-School Conundrum” featured Prof. Jaiswal, Prof. Chandan Chowdhury of ISB, and Prof. Vishal Talwar of University of Southampton, Delhi Campus, discussing the balance between placements, research, and entrepreneurship for sustainable impact.

 

By convening global experts and fostering collaborative thinking, IIM Sambalpur reaffirmed its role in advancing research-driven excellence and preparing future leaders to build adaptive, transparent, and sustainable supply chains.
