If Elected To Power In Odisha, BJP Govt To Probe On Naveen Patnaik's Deteriorating Health: PM Modi

Key Points

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday promised that if the BJP formed the government in the State, it would inquire into the reason behind the "sudden" deterioration of the health condition of BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

Baripada, May 29: Amid the intense campaign for the last phase of polls in Odisha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday promised that if the BJP formed the government in the State, it would inquire into the reason behind the "sudden" deterioration of the health condition of BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

Addressing an election rally in Baripada under Mayurbhanj Lok Sabha constituency, PM Modi questioned if there was a conspiracy behind CM Naveen Patnaik's deteriorating health.

"Is there a conspiracy behind the sudden deterioration of Naveen Patnaik's health? Is the lobby that is currently running the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD government on his behalf responsible for the sudden deterioration of his health condition?" PM Modi asked.

“If the BJP forms the government in Odisha after the ongoing general elections, it would constitute a committee to ascertain the reason behind the deterioration of Patnaik's health," he said.

PM Modi's remark on Patnaik's health condition came a day after Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma alleged that bureaucrat-turned-BJD leader VK Pandian was controlling even the hand movements of the Odisha CM.

Yesterday, Sharma shared a video showing how Pandian grabbed CM Patnaik's trembling hand and tried to conceal it while the BJD chief was addressing an election rally.

"This is a deeply distressing video. Shri V K Pandian ji is even controlling the hand movements of Shri Naveen babu. I shudder to imagine the level of control a retired ex-bureaucrat from Tamil Nadu is currently exercising over the future of Odisha!" Sharma wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

In an apparent reference to BJD leader V K Pandian, who hails from Tamil Nadu and is considered to be a close aide of CM Patnaik, PM Modi said, "Entire Odisha wants an Odia Chief Minister."

"People of Odisha have decided to put a full stop to the 25-year rule of the BJD in the state," he asserted.

The Assembly and Lok Sabha elections are being held simultaneously in the state in four phases from May 13 to June 1.

The last phase of simultaneous elections in six Lok Sabha seats in Odisha- Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur- and 42 assembly segments coming under these Lok Sabha constituencies will be held on June 1.
