Mayurbhanj man admits to filing false gangrape case against four elderly men after a domestic dispute with his wife.

Authorities may pursue legal action for misuse of the legal system and filing a fabricated complaint.

Mayurbhanj, Jun 19: In a dramatic turn of events, a reported gangrape case from Rajabasa village under Baripada Sadar police limits in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district has been declared false after the complainant — husband of the alleged victim — admitted to fabricating the charges.

Earlier, the man had filed a written complaint alleging that four men abducted his wife from their home late at night and raped her in a locked room. Based on his statement, police registered a case under section 126/25 and launched a detailed investigation.

However, during the inquiry, inconsistencies emerged. Upon further questioning and recording statements under Section 164 of the CrPC, both the husband and wife revealed the truth. The couple had reportedly consumed handia (a local rice beer) during the Raja festival and got into a heated argument. In anger, the woman left for her parental home.

Unable to locate her and influenced by misleading comments from some locals, the husband filed a false gangrape complaint out of frustration and suspicion. He later confessed that he had been misled and regretted his actions.

Adding to the implausibility of the original claim, police noted that the accused individuals were all over 60 years old, making the allegations even more questionable. The husband has now publicly admitted that the incident was fabricated and that no such crime occurred.

Police have confirmed that no evidence of sexual assault was found and that the case was a result of misunderstanding and external provocation. Authorities are now considering legal action for filing a false complaint.
