Bhubaneswar, Aug 28: A man has been diagnosed with bird flu or avian influenza in Odisha’s Puri district, informed Health Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling on Wednesday.
The human case of bird flu was found in the Mangalpur Community Health Center (CHC) of Puri district, the Minister said.
The Health Department has intensified its monitoring efforts in the affected areas, including the Pipili and Satyabadi blocks in the district, where an H5N1 outbreak is currently being closely observed.
The authorities established a primary surveillance zone within a 1 km radius and a secondary surveillance layer extending from 1 km to 10 km around the affected area.
According to sources, health workers are conducting door-to-door awareness campaigns and distributing Tamiflu medicines to those in need, along with N95 masks as part of the containment strategy.

✨Notably, H5N1 avian influenza was first detected in several poultry farms in Pipili, two days ago.
The Animal Husbandry Department has initiated the process of birds culling in the affected localities.
Residents in Pipili and Satyabadi blocks have been advised to avoid contact with birds and to report any sick or dead poultry to authorities immediately.
A temporary ban on the sale and transport of poultry products from the region has been imposed to further prevent the virus from spreading, officials said.
