Puri, Jul 8: After completing the sacred nine-day sojourn at Gundicha Temple, the divine trinity—Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra—will ceremoniously return to the sanctum of the Shree Mandir today during the revered Niladri Bije ritual.
As per tradition, the deities will be escorted in a Goti Pahandi procession, where each deity is carried individually from their chariot into the temple. The ritual is set to begin at 4 PM, marking the culmination of the annual Rath Yatra festivities.
This final leg of the journey, known as Bahuda Yatra, symbolises the return of the deities from their aunt’s abode at Gundicha Temple to their original home. Once inside the temple, they will be reinstalled on the Ratna Singhasana, signifying the completion of their divine journey.
The Niladri Bije also carries emotional and cultural significance, as Lord Jagannath traditionally offers Rasagullas to appease Goddess Lakshmi, who had been upset over his unannounced departure. This sweet reconciliation is celebrated as Rasagulla Dibasa across Odisha.
Devotees from across the country have gathered in Puri to witness this spiritually charged event, which blends devotion, drama, and tradition in a spectacle of faith and festivity.
