Puri, Aug 13: In a landmark move to strengthen cultural and economic ties between eastern and northwestern India, the Indian Railways extended the Puri-Lalgarh Express to Shri Ganganagar in Rajasthan.

This historic step now links the coastal region of Odisha with the arid expanse of the Thar Desert, enhancing connectivity and fostering national integration.

The extended train was ceremonially flagged off today by Puri MP Sambit Patra and Rajya Sabha MP Subhashish Khuntia at Puri Railway Station.

The weekly service will depart every Wednesday at 6:35 AM from Puri and reach Shri Ganganagar at 8:35 PM the following day, covering a vast stretch across the country with just nine scheduled stops between the two terminal stations.

This expansion is expected to play a pivotal role in bridging the eastern and northwestern regions of India, offering passengers a comfortable and culturally enriching journey. The train will serve as a vital link for pilgrims, tourists, and traders alike, contributing to regional development and national unity.

During the inauguration, MP Sambit Patra announced a Rs 162 crore redevelopment plan for Puri Railway Station, aiming to transform it into a world-class facility.

Among others Puri MLA Sunil Mohanty, East Coast Railway DRM Alok Tripathi, and other prominent officials and community leaders were present during the event.
