Four-tier security cover in Bhubaneswar for the visit.

Bhubaneswar, Nov 26: President Droupadi Murmu is set to script history on Thursday by becoming the first President of India to address the Odisha Legislative Assembly. The event holds special significance as it marks a symbolic homecoming for Murmu, who began her political career as a legislator in the very same House more than two decades ago.

A Return to Roots

President Murmu, twice elected from the Rairangpur Assembly Constituency in 2000 and 2004, served as Minister of State in the BJD-BJP coalition government. She held portfolios in Commerce and Transport, and later Fisheries and Animal Resources Development.

President Murmu will visit Room Number 11, the chamber where she worked during her tenure as a legislator. The chamber has been renovated ahead of her arrival.

Legacy and Recognition

President Murmu’s political career in Odisha was marked by distinction. In 2007, she received the Nilkanth Award for Best MLA of the Odisha Assembly. Her return as the President of India underscores her enduring bond with the state and its people.

The winter session of the Assembly will continue until December 31, with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi set to present the supplementary budget on November 28.
