Bali Jatra is a festival to celebrate the glorious maritime histrory of Odisha. Bali Jatra, meaning “Journey to Bali,” honours Odisha’s old tradition of traders sailing to distant lands in boats called Boitas from the Mahanadi River during Kartika Purnima. The celebration features grand fairs, elaborate rides, food and dance.
This year, the eight-day cultural extravaganza will be held exclusively on the lower Bali Jatra ground here, following a directive from the Orissa High Court.
Court Restriction on Fair
In a significant change, the court has prohibited any fair-related activities on the upper Bali Jatra ground. The area will now be used solely for parking, ensuring better crowd management and traffic flow during the festival. This decision comes in response to concerns over congestion and environmental impact.
