Kataka, Oct 25: Preparations are underway for the historic Bali Jatra in Kataka, which is scheduled to begin on November 24. This year, a replica of the iconic Titanic ship and a Japan-themed attraction called ‘Venicity’ are expected to emerge as major draws at the lower Bali Jatra ground.

'The Titanic' replica is likely to offer visitors a unique experience, bringing to life the famous passenger liner often seen in the famous Hollywood film starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. The ship, once regarded as one of the most luxurious passenger liners of its time, became globally renowned after it sank during its maiden voyage in April 1912.

According to the organiser Abhishek Jena, the replica is being constructed with a width of 180 feet, a length of 120 feet and a height of 30 feet. More than 1,000 visitors will be able to explore the structure at a time.

The attraction is expected to give visitors an opportunity to experience a Titanic-inspired setup without travelling beyond the Bali Jatra grounds.

With preparations progressing at the fairground, the two attractions are expected to enhance the visitor experience at one of Odisha’s most popular annual fairs. This year, Bali Jatra is officially scheduled to take place from November 24 to December 1, along the Mahanadi riverbank in Kataka.

Bali Jatra commemorates Odisha’s historic maritime trade links with Southeast Asia. The annual fair draws large crowds with its mix of cultural programmes, handicrafts, food stalls and entertainment attractions.
