Sambalpur, Aug 23: The water level in Hirakud Reservoir has increased following persistent rainfall in the upper catchment areas.
As of 6 AM today, the water level has reached 620.10 feet, nearing the danger mark. The current inflow stands at approximately 2,04,831 cusecs, indicating a substantial rise compared to earlier this month.
Following the rise, the authorities have decided to open the gates of the dam.
Notably, on August 3, all gates of the dam were closed after a decline in both water level and inflow. However, with the recent spike, officials have decided to reopen select gates to regulate the water level and ensure safety downstream.
