Sambalpur, Aug 9: Six more sluice gates were opened at Hirakud Dam to release more floodwater into the Mahanadi River this morning.
The gates were opened as the water level in the reservoir increased due to rains in the upper catchment area of the Mahanadi River, Hirakud Dam authorities said.
With opening of the six gates, floodwater is now being released through 14 gates (Nine on the left and five on the right) from the Hirakud reservoir.

✨Dam authorities said the reservoir's water level stood at 612.25 ft at 6 am against its water-holding capacity of 630 ft. The dam was releasing 2,86,136 cusec water by 6 am.

As reported by DoWR, 5,87,560 Cusec of water in the river Mahanadi is flowing at Mundali by 6.00 AM today. District Collectors of Sambalpur, Sonepur, Nayagarh, Angul, Boudh, Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara have been advised to remain alert.
