Hirakud Dam To Release First Floodwater Of The Season On July 6

Key Points

Hirakud Dam's first floodwater release of the season scheduled for July 6 at 10 AM.

Water discharge will begin from Gate No. 7 due to rising reservoir level.

Sambalpur, July 3: The Hirakud Dam authorities on Thursday announced that water will be released from the reservoir for the first time this monsoon season at 10 AM on July 6.

The discharge of water will begin through Gate No. 7 of the dam, marking the start of annual flood management operations, officials said.

According to the Chief Engineer of the Hirakud Dam, Sushil Kumar Behera, the current water level has reached 603 feet, nearing critical limits due to continuous rainfall in upstream regions. To prevent overflow and maintain optimal reservoir balance, controlled water release has become necessary.
