Sambalpur, July 18: Two more sluice gates of Hirakud dam in Sambalpur will be opened today to maintain the water level of the dam.

The floodwater will now be released through four gates,- three on the left and one on the right.

The move came in response to increasing inflow from the Mahanadi basin, following sustained rainfall in upstream regions.

Officials from the Water Resources Department confirmed that the dam is currently releasing floodwater in a controlled manner to prevent downstream inundation.

The decision was made after monitoring reservoir levels and inflow rates, which have surged over the past 48 hours, said a senior official.
