Sambalpur, Aug 25: Hirakud Dam authorities opened six more sluice gates to release excess floodwater from the reservoir today. 

With this, the Hirakud Dam is now releasing flood through 20 gates. 

The authorities said six more gates were opened after the reservoir swelled due to rains in the upper catchment area. People residing in low-lying areas have been advised to remain alert.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorologial Department has predicted heave rains for Odisha in the next three days.
