Sambalpur, Jul 25: At least four more sluice gates of Hirakud dam were opened today, amid rise in the water level in the dam following heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas.
With this latest action, a total of 12 gates are currently operational in managing the excess water.
According to reports, eight gates on the left bank and four on the right bank are actively releasing water to maintain safe reservoir levels and prevent overflow.
As of 9:00 AM, the reservoir's water level stood at 609.17 feet. The inflow from upstream has increased significantly, reaching 1,86,815 cusecs per second. To manage the rising volume, the dam is currently releasing 1,56,194 cusecs of water through the open gates.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have advised nearby residents and farmers to remain alert.
