Sambalpur, Sep 5: Authorities at Hirakud Dam have opened four more sluice gates. With this, the excess water is being released from 20 gates of the reservoir.

According to reports, the decision was taken as the reservoir approached its full capacity.

This prompted engineers to initiate controlled water release to prevent overflow and ensure the dam’s structural safety.

Hirakud, one of Asia’s longest earthen dams, plays a vital role in flood control and irrigation across Odisha.

Local administration has issued alerts to downstream areas, especially along the Mahanadi River, urging residents to remain cautious.

On the other hand, Disaster response teams are on standby, and officials are closely monitoring the situation to mitigate any potential risks.
