Puri, May 9: Security has been heightened at Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha, with over 150 police personnel deployed to ensure safety. The move came after Pakistan’s unprovoked attack on several places in India on Thursday night.
The temple, a significant pilgrimage site, has been placed under high alert, with security forces closely monitoring the premises.
According to reports, after night-long checking and blocking, police teams are reportedly inspecting various hotels across Puri, with verifying IDs of guests.
On Thursday night, an aerial attack by Pakistan targeting Jammu was successfully foiled by India’s air defence systems. The attempted strike, involving drones and missiles, triggered blackouts and sirens across several areas in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan. Authorities urged residents to remain indoors and vigilant as emergency protocols were activated.
India has reportedly undertaken retaliatory action in the wake of the attacks.
The Odisha government has taken proactive measures to strengthen security, including the formation of the Swatantra Shree Mandir Surakshya Bahini (SSMSV), a specialized security force trained under the National Security Guard (NSG). This force is equipped with modern technology to counter potential threats, including bomb detection and disposal.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, ensuring that devotees can visit the temple safely while maintaining stringent security protocols.
