Agniveer Tenure Extended
On Wednesday, the government has announced a major Diwali gift for Agniveers by extending their service tenure by an additional two years. The move will allow Agniveers to serve longer in the armed forces and improve their chances of being absorbed into the regular military.
Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General N.S. Raja Subramani announced the decision on Wednesday. According to him, Agniveers will now receive an additional two-year engagement period. After completing this extended tenure, eligible and interested Agniveers will have the opportunity to join the regular armed forces through the prescribed selection process.
The decision to extend the tenure of Agniveers was approved during a Union Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. The announcement comes at a time when nearly 18,000 Agniveers were approaching the end of their service period and were set to retire from the scheme.
CDS General Raja Subramani stated that all Agniveers would
be given an opportunity to continue serving in the armed forces. However, their
continuation and eventual absorption into the regular military will depend on
their performance and evaluation during service.
