Bhubaneswar, June 22: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of alerts forecasting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds, in multiple districts of Odisha between June 22 and 26. The warnings stem from the likely formation of an upper air cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal and surrounding regions around June 25.


The impact of this weather system is expected to intensify, leading to widespread heavy downpours, especially from June 25 onward. Coastal regions are likely to face wind speeds of 35–55 kmph on June 24 and 25, raising concerns for public safety and transportation.


Khordha district recorded the highest rainfall today, according to preliminary reports. Yellow and Orange Alerts have been issued for districts including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Ganjam, and Gajapati, where very heavy rainfall is likely, particularly on June 25 and 26.
