Heavy Rain To Continue In Odisha As Fresh Low-Pressure Likely To Form Over BoB Around Aug 25

Bhubaneswar, Aug 22: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday forecast the formation of a fresh low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal off the Odisha-West Bengal coast around August 25.
“A fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha-West Bengal coasts around 25th August 2025,” IMD’s latest bulletin said.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a series of weather alerts for Odisha, warning of severe rainfall and thunderstorms across multiple districts for the next five days
A Red Warning has been issued for Sundargarh, where extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds reaching 30–40 km/h are expected during the next 24 hours.

✨Similarly, an Orange Warning has been sounded for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sambalpur, and Jharsuguda, forecasting very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with similar wind speeds.
A Yellow Alert has been declared for a wide swath of Odisha, including Deogarh, Angul, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Balasore, Bhadrak, Rayagada, Ganjam, and Gajapati, where heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely. Additionally, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Bargarh, Dhenkanal, Nuapada, Nawarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Boudh, Sonepur, and Bolangir may experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds.

The weathermen has cautioned that rainfall is likely to continue across various regions of Odisha until August 27, with the possibility of worsening conditions in the red and orange alert zones. Residents in affected districts have been advised to remain vigilant and prepare for potential evacuation to safer locations if necessary.
The earlier low-pressure system that formed over the Bay of Bengal near northern Andhra Pradesh and southern Odisha coasts brought intense rainfall to several parts of the state, disrupting daily life and raising water levels in rivers and reservoirs.
